Entry Fees - Members/ Non-Members/ Children/ Picnic

Entry fees are $7 for a member or $10 for a non-member. A member is considered any individual who joined the Association prior to the tournament. Children and spouses are considered members.

There will not be a charge for children 16 years of age and under fishing aboard a registered boat. Any Captain who has registered in person or by radio is responsible for seeing that all tournament fees are paid to the Port Chairperson regardless if he (she) attends the Weigh In or Picnic.

Anyone not participating in the tournament but wishing to attend the Picnic must pay a $5 fee.

Captains Meeting

There shall always be a Captains Meeting one hour prior to each tournament's tentative starting time when port and/or harbor conditions permit. This will be defined prior to the specific tournament. The Captains Meeting will be conducted by the Port Chairperson. The Captain of each boat or a member of the crew must attend this meeting.

It is the responsibility of the Port Chairperson to inform each Boat Captain of the fishing tournament boundaries and any change in the starting or Weigh In time.

Exceptions - The exception will require each Captain to sign in with the Port Chairperson prior to the tournament before being eligible to participate in the tournament. Captains who arrive late may radio the Port Chairperson and include all participants and will be eligible for the tournament.

Fishing Time

Fishing will be terminated a maximum of seven hours after the official starting time of the tournament and all lines must be pulled.

Fishing Site

All boats must fish out of the port(s) designated as the tournament port(s).

Fishing Equipment

Maximum number of rods used is eight (8) per boat. Two lures per rod are permitted.

Boat Captains

All boats registered in any boat tournament or fishing outing must be captained by a dues-paying member.

Charter Boats

Fish taken aboard a chartered boat are ineligible and won’t be accepted for entry.

Weigh In

Weigh In shall occur one hour following termination of fishing. All fish to be weighed must be at the club scale by this time. Fish weighed in after that time period will not be counted. Weigh In times may vary according to starting times.

Official Weight

All entries must be weighed on the OCSA club scale (or equivalent as agreed-upon by the Tournament Committee).

Win, Place, Draw and Mystery Fish

First, Second and Third Place – For Great Lakes Tournaments, the heaviest fish over two lbs. of each species except Walleye will be awarded a First Place certificate. This does not apply for Inland Lake and River Tournaments. In the event of a tie, identical certificates will be awarded.

 

Points–Points will be awarded as follows:                    

First Place-                 4 points                    

Second Place-            3 points                    

Third Place-                2 points       

All participants will be awarded 1 point for participation in a scheduled tournament.

 

Captain's Plaque – For Great Lakes Tournaments, the Captain of the boat will receive a plaque for First Place fish caught aboard his (or her) boat.

 

Mystery Fish - A bag of lures will be given to the person catching the mystery fish of the tournament. The Port Chairperson(s) will decide that tournament's mystery fish - both size and species.

Delays and Cancellations

The Port Chairperson will make all decisions for delay or cancellation of the tournament due to the weather. All registered boats must be notified of cancellation by radio communications with verification required from each boat.

Communication and Safety

OCSA strongly suggests that each boat have a Marine VHF radio aboard for tournament communications and safety.

Marine VHF channels: monitor Channel 16 and 68 unless otherwise specified.

Note: A second communication system is suggested. CB radios are no longer monitored by the US Coast. Cell phones, if carried, should be checked on the water for capability.

All boats registered must have a minimum of two (2) persons on board.

Violations/ Disqualification

A. Violation of the above rules may result in the disqualification of the person(s) observed and/ or the entire boat.

B. All violations and/ or accusations or any situations not specifically covered by the above rules must be presented to the Port Chairperson or the Boat Chairperson or the Boat Committee on the day of the tournament for their evaluation and ruling.

C. All decisions made by the Port Chairman and / or the Boat Committee shall be final

Kid’s Day (16 years and under)

All boat outing rules shall apply in addition to those listed below.

All children must be registered with the Port Chairperson. There will be no entry fee.

Adults can set out lines and net fish.

Once lines are set, only kids can handle the rods and land the fish.

The rod may be removed from its holder and the hook set by an adult.
